Thompson Burton Sponsored Athlete, Sharon Thompson, Brings Home the Gold!

Sharon Thompson, Thompson Burton’s first corporate sponsored athlete, repeated as champion at the Nashville Country Music Half Marathon over the weekend.  As wife of TB co-founder, Kevin Thompson, we are all tremendously proud of her recent success.  Sharon is living proof that good habits, over lengthy periods of time, can lead to amazing results.  Her steady commitment to excellence is consistent with the values we hold dear at Thompson Burton.   This is not the first time this mother of three has amazed people with her ability to win, despite raising three young kids.  In January of 2012, this marathon mom competed in the Olympic Trials for the marathon in Houston, Texas.

So if you’re wondering what a TB sponsorship looks like, this is probably not a good example.  Sharon generously agreed to wear the TB logo in exchange for two nights’ worth of child care.  With the next one, we anticipate it will be a more complicated negotiation.

At the post race concert / awards ceremony, the headliner performing was Rodney Atkins.  While it was amazing to meet such great musicians, the highlight of the night for Sharon was meeting Jim Ryun.  Jim Ryun has been named as the “Greatest High School Athlete Ever” by ESPN, ranking above Tiger Woods and LeBron James.  As a three time Olympian, he’s undoubtedly one of the greatest track athletes in the history of the sport.  About meeting Jim, Sharon said, “I was simply amazed I got to meet Jim Ryun.  He’s such a great ambassador for the sport.  My father would tell me stories of Jim Ryun when I was growing up.  My brother actually had a picture of him in his room.  I’ve been a fan of his for a long time.”
