Alex is a Partner with Thompson Burton, having spent over 13 years as an attorney with Metro Nashville. As Senior Counsel, Alex was the department liaison to Metro Council and served as the primary legal advisor for Metro’s various land use entities, including the Planning Department and Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Historic Zoning Commission, Downtown Code Design Review Committee, and Codes Department and related boards. Alex also coordinated legal review of Metro’s state lobbying efforts, working with legislators, lobbyists, state officials, and constituent groups on pending legislation.

Alex has litigated in local, state, and federal courts, including arguing before the Tennessee Court of Appeals and the federal Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Alex has also defended Metro’s property tax interests in bankruptcy court and at the federal Bankruptcy Appellate Panel.

Alex is a native of Cheatham County and lives in Nashville with his wife, Ashley, and their two daughters. Outside of his professional duties, Alex captains the Jackalope Dark Knights, a recreational hockey league team.
