Thompson Burton, PLLC Adds Employment Lawyer J.K. Simms
The rapidly growing law firm of Thompson Burton, PLLC, has launched an Employment Law practice with its announcement that J.K. Simms has joined the firm as a partner and will lead the firm’s employment law practice. J.K.’s proven background in employment law will expand Thompson Burton’s ability to serve its clients both from a litigation avoidance and litigation defense standpoint.
J.K. comes to Thompson Burton after having led and served as Chair of a Labor and Employment Practice Group at the Nashville law firm of Cornelius & Collins, LLP since 2007.
J.K. brings extensive experience representing companies and individuals at the state level throughout the State of Tennessee and in every federal court district in the State of Tennessee. He has also handled appeals at the state and federal level, including arguing an appeal before a sixteen-judge en banc panel at the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 2012.
“We’re extremely excited with the addition of J.K. to the firm. J.K. not only fits the mold of the type of person that we’re looking for to join our firm, he is also recognized as a top labor and employment lawyer who will enhance our ability to serve our clients’ needs,” said Walt Burton, partner and co- founder of Thompson Burton.
In addition to J.K.’s focus on advocating for his clients in employment litigation, he devotes a great deal of time conducting training for his clients and advising them in identifying potential employment-related legal issues and resolving day-to-day management and operations issues.
“I have deep admiration for anyone that forges the kind of expertise created by J.K. He has dedicated years of his life to becoming one of the best and I look forward to seeing what he can do in our business model,” said Kevin Thompson.
J.K. received his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he served as Lead
Editor of Student Materials for the Tennessee Law Review. He received his undergraduate degree from Lipscomb University, where he graduated magna cum laude. He was recognized as a leader among Tennessee lawyers when selected for inclusion in the Tennessee Bar Association Leadership Law program, a program for which he now serves on the Steering Committee.
He lives in Franklin, Tennessee with his wife, Suzanne, and their three children.
