Creative Competitors – Chris Duncan

In this episode, Walt Burton interviews Chris Duncan, co-owner of Superior Custom Homes and Remodeling, at his corporate headquarters.  Superior’s primary focus and core competency is building custom homes from $400,000 up to $2 million in the Middle Tennessee market. Despite significant headwind from the national economy and homebuilding industry in general during the Great Recession, Superior has weathered the downturn and thrived by intently focusing on and responding to the needs and demands of its customers. During the video, we discuss how the same core principles and relentless focus on results that Superior demonstrated during the downturn also resulted in Chris achieving near legendary status while running track at the University of Florida.  Chris is the quintessential competitor, excelling at an elite level in the Steeplechase and indoor mile.  Chris was a 6 time All-American and still holds multiple school records at UF.  Chris has even run a sub-4 minute mile, breaking what […]

Creative Competitors – Frode Jorgensen

In this episode, I interview Frode Jorgenson, founder of Bidify.  Bidify is a penny auction site, similar to QuiBids, with the exception of a compensation formula that rewards Affiliates for referring other customers to the platform.  Despite being in its early stages, the company is growing at a rapid clip. In May of 2012, the company hosted an achievers trip in Phuket, Thailand for its top 10 sales people over the last quarter.  They were gracious enough to invite me so as to meet in person and better understand each other.  I spent the week in Thailand getting to know the founders and meeting with Bidify’s top leaders.  And yes, I managed to have a lot of fun along the way.  The weather was perfect and the itinerary was fantastic.  See below for a few of the pictures we took. One of the founders, Frode, is Norwegian and a serial […]

Episode 2, Introducing Creative Competitors

The Nashville City Club  was gracious to let us record our second video in the series at their fantastic location in downtown Nashville.  If you’re in the Nashville area, I would seriously consider joining the club.  It’s very convenient and loaded with benefits.   In this episode, Kevin and Walt announce the general theme of the video series.  We’re calling it “Creative Competitors.”  The focus of the video series will be on various members in the community who compete, including entrepreneurs and successful business people.  The theme is broad enough to even allow us room to interview athletes, musicians and anyone else that competes creatively.  In this new economy, creativity is key and we’re looking forward to exploring the keys to success with the people making it happen.  In this episode, we also talk about recent developments with the law firm, including cloud computing, accounting and methods on scaling the […]

Thompson Burton Sponsored Athlete, Sharon Thompson, Brings Home the Gold!

Sharon Thompson, Thompson Burton’s first corporate sponsored athlete, repeated as champion at the Nashville Country Music Half Marathon over the weekend.  As wife of TB co-founder, Kevin Thompson, we are all tremendously proud of her recent success.  Sharon is living proof that good habits, over lengthy periods of time, can lead to amazing results.  Her steady commitment to excellence is consistent with the values we hold dear at Thompson Burton.   This is not the first time this mother of three has amazed people with her ability to win, despite raising three young kids.  In January of 2012, this marathon mom competed in the Olympic Trials for the marathon in Houston, Texas.   So if you’re wondering what a TB sponsorship looks like, this is probably not a good example.  Sharon generously agreed to wear the TB logo in exchange for two nights’ worth of child care.  With the next one, […]
