The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”) recently filed race discrimination lawsuits against two large companies, Dollar General and BMW, for use of pre-employment criminal background checks. Thompson Burton PLLC partner and business litigation attorney, Cole Dowsley, published his initial thoughts regarding the lawsuits and the EEOC’s aggressive enforcement initiatives. His commentary resulted in an interview with national legal publication, Lawyers USA. On June 13, 2013, Lawyers USA published an article, titled EEOC background check suits wake-up call for employers, discussing the lawsuits and quoting Mr. Dowsley regarding the potential fallout for employers.
