Thompson Burton PLLC law firm model featured at Vanderbilt Law School


On October 7, 2013, Walt Burton (A&S, ’98) was a guest speaker for a new class at Vanderbilt Law School. The class is entitled Law Practice 2050 and is taught by Professor J.B. Ruhl (www.law2050.com). Walt spoke to approximately 45 students about his career path from law school to Troutman Sanders LLP in Atlanta to Thompson Burton PLLC in Nashville. He discussed how he and Kevin Thompson founded Thompson Burton as an alternative to other law firm models and how Thompson Burton distinguishes itself from other law firms. Specifically, Walt discussed the firm’s cloud-based technology, flexible fee structure for clients, low overhead, and its favorable attorney compensation program. Walt expressed his confidence in Thompson Burton’s model and cited the firm’s rapid but stable growth in its less than two years of existence as proof of the success of the model.
