Thompson Burton Challenge: Round II

Part of Thompson Burton’s commitment to redefining the art of law also includes redefining work culture at law firms. As described more fully here, the Thompson Burton Challenge is a 90 day challenge where participants have 90 days to achieve their objectives–a personal development goal that must be attainable, but challenging. If participants achieve their goal, they will be awarded cash bonuses that can only be spent on an experience that they would never do otherwise. TB Challenge’s first round of participants finished up their challenges in November, and their stories can be found here. TB Challenge’s second round of participants began their challenges in January 2016. Jackie Dusek’s TB Challenge: study for and pass a high school mid-term test in advanced German language skills in 90 days. Final Update from Jackie: The purpose of my TB Challenge was to finish something for myself.  It’s not a concept with which […]

TB Challenge Round I: Final Update

Thompson Burton is very proud of its participants in the firm’s first round of TB Challenges. Each of these individuals worked very hard to accomplish difficult goals, and whether they fully accomplished each goal or not, we are proud of their commitment to publicly challenge themselves and get out of their comfort zones. Congratulations! Jennifer Lankford’s TB Challenge: compete in a Mud Run 5k and a 10k before September 28th. Final Update from Jennifer: I completed my 5k on September 5th, and a 15K (3 miles longer than the actual goal!) later in September. It was challenging, but I loved it. I used the TB Challenge money to go to Maine, where Brent (my husband) and I had an absolutely fabulous time. There was great lobster, beautiful leaves, and lots of hiking. Attached is a picture of the sunrise at Cadillac Mountain, where the sun is first seen in the U.S. during […]

TB in the News: Thompson Burton partner, JK Simms, recognized as Best of the Bar

J.K. Simms, who leads Thompson Burton’s Labor and Employment law team, was recognized by the Nashville Business Journal in its annual Best of the Bar survey. This list recognizes the Nashville area’s best lawyers. To assemble the list, the Nashville Business Journal asked the Nashville area’s business community to nominate those lawyers who should be recognized for their work. Those nominated are then separated by the size of their law firm or role as in-house counsel. Then those who are nominated select only 10 lawyers whom they believe should ultimately receive the “Best of the Bar” designation. Those who receive the most votes from their peers receive the “Best of the Bar” award. The award is a great honor because it is a culmination of recognition of excellence from the business and legal communities. Simms has also been recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in the exclusive Mid-South Super Lawyer list […]

Thompson Burton’s newest associate, Alex Scarbrough, will be competing in the Tennessee Ragnar Relay this October 25-26, 2013. She, along with eleven teammates, will run 198.6 miles, beginning in downtown Chattanooga on the Tennessee River, and finishing in downtown Nashville near the Cumberland River in the Country Music Walk of Fame park. Each teammate completes a total of three runs, cycling all twelve runners in order three times over a non-stop, twenty-four hour period. A special Ragnar inscribed slap bracelet takes the place of the traditional baton, and teammates stop at various points along the course to cheer their runners along, particularly along the difficult ascents of Signal Mountain and Monteagle Mountain. Alex’s team, named “Anne’s Allstars,” after Alex’s late mother, Anne Scarbrough, who passed away in 2010 after being diagnosed with melanoma, is in its third year of participating in the event. The team runs to raise money for […]
