Biography
Trent Meriwether is part of Thompson Burton’s Restructuring and Insolvency, Litigation, and Appellate practice groups. There, he litigates in state and federal trial and appellate courts on issues involving business-contract and real-estate disputes, as well as all things bankruptcy, including Chapter 11 restructuring and Chapter 7 creditor, debtor, and trustee work. Overall, his practice aims to salvage clients’ businesses, deals, and assets after the unexpected happens.
Prior to joining the firm, Trent honed his litigation skills while serving as an Assistant Attorney General for the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office. In that position, he litigated mostly high-profile cases across an array of practice areas, including constitutional, education, civil rights, healthcare, employment, and administrative law. While there he also gained the skillset needed to take clients’ cases on appeal by regularly working with the Solicitor General’s Office on multiple state and federal
appeals.
Trent graduated cum laude from Pepperdine University’s Caruso School of Law. While there he served as an associate editor of the Pepperdine Law Review, a member of the school’s moot court, and an extern to Judge Terry J. Hatter, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Faulkner University, magna cum laude.
When not practicing law, Trent enjoys camping with his wife and kids, knocking out house renovations, and reading everything from Tolkien to Bryan Garner to N.T. Wright.
